CHARON-11 facilitates the replacement of the aging PDP-11 hardware and leaves your trusted PDP-11 application and systems software unchanged. CHARON-11 is a software package that emulates a PDP-11 CPU (instructions, registers, memory, interrupts) in addition to the most commonly used PDP-11 peripherals.

Except in special cases, the PDP-11 components like CPU, disks, tape devices, Ethernet cards and terminal lines are emulated using the standard hardware of the host platform. You can find the product description here.

CHARON-11 can execute PDP-11 code much faster than the 11/93 the fastest PDP-11 system built by Digital Equipment Corporation. Multiple instances of CHARON-11 can run simultaneously on a single host, thus providing multiple independent PDP-11 systems for the price of a single license.
